The tranquil setting provided a setting for the rest point
of Lord Rib Tec and his marching troops. Realising for them that the constant
war machines that were the Saurus would never stop until told (even if they
were exhausted), the Slann telepathically instructed his Skink servant to hold
the march. Obeying his master, the white skinned Skink Priest hissed to the
mighty warriors to hold their ground and bask in the much warmer heat of the
low sun. The mighty soldiers halted and like statues, did not move from the
spot they were instructed to.
The army enjoyed a moment of peace after so much bloodshed
in their last battle against the evil Ratmen and their defiled corpses. Zaki
was still shaken from the transformation of his cousins into his hated enemy
before his eyes and wondered what menace they had to play on the world yet to
come. Since their last fight, Lord Rib Tec had lead with his wisdom and had
replenished their dwindling numbers. The addition of a mighty living fortress
carrying a solar engine to provide more energy to the troops around him, the
Bastiladon was a welcomed sight to the scaled warriors. Also the Temple City’s
Recorder of the Plan had come along through with the Bastiladon to ensure its
safety. Trix was not like Zaki, in he had grown more arrogant with age. Being
the eldest Priest of the City had made him Zaki’s superior, but that did not
mean that Zaki and Trix were the closest of brethren. Trix had always been one
to sit at the back of the board where Zaki had been the trail blazer of his
kind, leading from the front. A final member of the army was the Scar Veteran
Har Baq, a warrior blessed with the markings of the Old Ones and that possessed
blistering pace. Like his kin, he was loyal to his Lord and marched alongside
the Temple Guard surrounding him. The great warrior wielded a golden weapon
that was said to be blessed with speed from the temple of Itzi and an enchanted
shield made from the shell of a long extinct creature known as a Diamond Fang,
a swamp dwelling turtle like creature that could survive the searing heat of
the pools it inhabited.
Suddenly looking to the sky, Zaki noticed something sweep
over head with unholy speed with a mighty screech! Zaki paniced as he sensed
the winds of magic shift to the South West (as was his atunment to the winds).
He had sensed this before when facing the foul humanoids from the South Coast
of Lustria. The clouds began to gather over the small force and darken the sun.
The shriek came once again and the large object landed behind the tree line
just out of his sight, yet some sort of gargantuan wings had landed it there.
Looking at his Lord upon his magical pool, he noticed that he was staring
straight to the monument straight ahead.
What emerged sent the frill on Zaki’s
head to quiver, but he held his ground. The Skink Priest readied his staff and
prepared to invoke the power of the Old Ones, but he felt Trix, pull him back
and take position for battle. Opposite them was a horde of zombies with a
caster of the evil magic that was animating the tortured souls. On the opposite
side of the monument was a unit of skeletons that held their shields and swords
up in a silent battle cry to walk forward. Too the horde of zombies right was a
unit of cavalry decorated in glorious death rags with skeletal warriors a top
them and lead by what Zaki could see, 2 Vampires.
“No. I will lead my kin. Long have I waited this moment to
serve my Lord and you have made it clear there is nothing to it.” Zaki stood
down obeying his superior’s wishes. Rib Tec telepathically instructed the
troops to form. His unit of Temple Guard, Har Baq and Rib Tec himself took the
monument opposite the undead horde. On his left positioned the great Bastilidon
and 20 of the finest Saurus warriors to its left. To Rib Tec’s right was 10 of
his best hunters with their javelins tipped in poison ready to bring down their
foes. Finally the crazed Ripperdactyls deployed on the far side.
Zaki looked at the Mage Priest as he saw the Winged Frenzys
lined up and took flight for the first time. He understood how these creatures
worked best and the army must have deployed a Bloat Toad somewhere for them to
hunt. The Slann just gazed straight to the monument where he saw a humanoid
with a staff. Around him the horde of zombies groaned in agony at their masters
will to deny them their eternal rest. Nothing diverted Rib Tec’s attention from
the Necromancer, nothing threw his concentration as a battle on the battlefield
commenced.
The Skeletons moved up and so did the Black Knights while
the Zombies moved forward to compensate the units all around them. Zaki then
looked to the forest as a large winged figure flew over the top of the tree
line and screeched at the skinks in front of it killing 4. The winged bat- like
creature was followed by green foul looking Ghouls thirsting for flesh. The
hooded figure then pointed to a spot behind his unit and emerged more poor
souls to torcher. The Skink priest felt their pain but Rib Tec was unflinched.
The winged beast was so threating to Trix that he retretated to the safety of
the Bastiladon’s protective presence.
Rib Tec then blinked and the sky’s above the Bastiladon
began to clear, allowing the sweet rays of Chotec to be absorbed by the Solar
Engine. Inhaling the solar beams and the winds of magic Rib Tec’s eyes began to
glow with the colours of all 8. With a glance to the Bat creature, a set of
clouds gathered above it. Snow began to fall on the creature and what was once
a pleasant summer’s breeze suddenly turned to ice cold gusts. As it roared in
anger a lightning bolt struck it but seemed to do nothing. I was here that was
the fall of Trix. In an attempt to cast an even stronger bolt, the priest
struck twice and failed to notice the ground opening up beneath him. The bolts
did nothing to the creature and Trix was absorbed into the Earth and disappeared.
Sensing the loss on one of his servants, the Slann temporarily lost focus but
for a second, but shook off the pain. Angered, the Slann glanced into the large
creature’s soul. Taking an ethereal form, the Slann flew over to grab hold of
the creature’s mystical energies and tore his hand from its chest. The beast
slumped but was still moving as it regenerated some of the soul that the Slann
had ripped out. Returning to his body, Rib- Tec clenched his webbed hand to
form a fire ball. With a breath, the Ancient Wizard created an even greater
ball of flame and threw it at the unholy creature. With a last cry, the
Terrorgheist burst into flames eradicated. Turning his attention to the large
unit of knights, Rib Tec then levelled himself to the Golden plane. Sensing the
armour worn by the undead warriors, his eyes began to glow brighter and
brighter and Zaki witnessed two of the knights seer and fall off their horses,
the others were un concerned. Upon finishing unleashing his full magic
potential, the Slann diverted his gaze back to the evil sorcerer that stood
before him. The face of the wicked wizard more focused and annoyed than he had
before the battle.
Shouting to his band of skeletal knights, the Necromancer
ordered them to hit the Temple guard hard and fast and calling a mighty charge
the nightmarish legions galloped forward. One of the Vampires raised his sword
to the gap in the clouds created by the Slann. The sun turned a dark shade of
purple and came down to touch the ground. With a blood crazed scream, the
Vampire set a beam of light back at the Lizardmen line and took down 15 Saurus.
Absorbing their souls, the Necromancer shivered with power and began to raise
more dead to halt the Lizardmen advance.
Rib Tec spared a second to look over to his right and then
with a blink turned to face the Necromancer once again. Noticing the Skeletons
were coming up fast the Saurus warriors marched to meet them head on. To
provide extra protection, the Slann targeted them to experience the Colds of
winter, their bones creaking under the frost bite. The Slann then turned his
gaze to the large unit of knights and once again his eyes began to glow with a
white light. Using the exorcism magic that he had been using for millennia against
the Daemons that tried to invade his City, the Slann again banished 4 knights
to the grave from which they came. He followed this up with melting the units
armour once again until only 2 Black Knights and the 2 Vampires were left. The
Slann then turned to the Necromancer and attempted to enter his sould to take
it and end this battle before any more precious lives were lost. The
Necromancer however managed to keep the Mage Priest at bay. Thanking that the
worst was over the Vampires lined up to finally get to their goal. However the
Bastiladon was manoeuvred to face the unit and was hit with a fraction of
Chotec’s power as the engine felled the rest of the unit. As the magical battle
was going on, the Ripperdactyls had found their target and sniffed out the
Lustrian Bloat Toad planted by some of Zaki’s brethren. Crashing into the flank
of the Zombies, one of the aerial predators began to consume corpses. In a
frenzied state black blood spilled all over the temple, but the Undead horde
just continued to face forward without caring any for their fallen. To the
right of the battlefield Zaki noticed the Ghouls who remained untouched.
However he also saw his kin move into a better vantage point to throw their javelins
reducing the unit slowly but surely.
In an attempt the Necromancer attempted to move his unit away
from the Ripperdactyls that threatened his unit but having the sent of the
Bloat Toad is not an easy sent to erase…
The 5 remaining Saurus in the meantime met the skeletons in
the middle of the field and began to fight it out only managing to knock down 2
of the undead warriors. Outnumbered, the Saurus fought hard with every bit of
strength they could muster. Zaki watched their battle unravel and eventually he
saw their primeval fury win as all 5 Saurus turned away from the pile of bones
they left to target the Necromancer.
Ordering his Unit forward the Slann moved forward to try and
get closer to the Evil Sorcerer. Sensing that their master was in trouble, the
Ghouls charged towards the Slann just to be cut down by Har Baq and the Temple
Guard before they had a chance to attack. One Ghoul thought to be dead leapt at
one of the Slann’s prized bodyguards and killed him out right. The remaining
creature was taken care of swiftly.
Looking at the Ripperdactyls from a far Zaki observed the
unit of zombies get fewer and fewer, the Necromancer finally fell. With his
demise the clouds cleared. The battle was over and the Lizardmen could continue
their march.
